The vast majority of clinical studies in cancer care utilize quantitative data to
answer their hypotheses. Numerical values such as length of survival, time to progression,
pain scores, percentages of adverse events, quality of life scores, and even performance
status scores and their statistical analyses help researchers and clinicians decide
on treatment paradigms. However, what is often lost in those numbers is the patient
voice and the humanity behind the statistics.
